Donald J. Yousey - Candidate for H2GO Board of Commissioners

Don first came to North Carolina in 1987 while serving in the United States Air Force.  He has lived here since and has his residence in Leland for the past 17 years. As a past County Health Director, Don continues to follow health issues in the area, especially as they regard to clean water.

 

Education

Don has a Registered Nurse Diploma from Marcy State Hospital School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Psychology from Park University and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas, Houston.

Career experience

Don served in the United States Air Force as an enlistee from 1963 to 1967. After getting his nurse diploma he returned to the Air Force as a commissioned officer and served until 1993 retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

 From 1994 to 1997 Don worked as the County Health Director in Bladen County and as the County Health Director in Brunswick County from 1997 until 2011.  While a Health Director Don served as President of the NC Local Health Director’s Association in 2004 and received North Carolina’s two highest awards for his contributions to NC Public health, The Ham Stevens Award in 2004 and The Ronald H. Levine Legacy Award in 2009.

Personal Details

Don has been married to his wife Carol for 47 years and together they have raised three children: Greg, Christie and Matthew.  He is an avid outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish the local area.  He keeps himself in great physical condition while enjoying his tennis outings three days a week.

Why is he running?

“I have spent my life in service to our country and in local government focused on health issues.  I believe those experiences, coupled with my work ethic and honesty will make a positive contribution to the H2GO Board of Commissioners.”
